Balancing the Water Chakra through Sound -  "Vam"

Why the Water chakra today?  

The chakras have an affiliation with the zodiac signs and as we head into late Winter, we're moving through the western zodiacal sign of Pisces - the Fishes.  Pisces is a Mutable Water sign.  This means that in the world of chakras, we can expect the 'Water Chakra' things to come up.  Since the Water Chakra also covers the other two Water signs, some of the things attributed to Scorpio and Cancer can also be up. (some of these are listed in The Benefit section below)

And a quick way to balance out these things is to chant the chakra seed sound for the Water Chakra: "Vam" 

Any time you've got anything 'Water Chakra' going on, the seed sound of "Vam" can be beneficial.  During the calendar year, from about Feb 22nd to Mar 21st, the Sun will be in Pisces and so you can expect extra energy 'highlighting' whatever is going on in your Water Chakra.

The technique:

• vocalize the chakra seed sound   - Vam
• and 'play' with: 
  • adding in colors to match the seed sounds - for Water, the color is orange.
  • being aware of the corresponding chakra location - in this case, the pelvis, about level with the bikini line
  • changing the pitch -  B in particular could be good, as might D# (Cancer) or G (Scorpio)
  • changing the length of vocalization - ie long and drawn out, short

Example: 

To bring the chakra into greater balance, chant 'Vam Vam Vam Vam'  This could be pronounced 'Vaaaaaaaaam   Vaaaaaaaaam   Vaaaaaaaaam   Vaaaaaaaaam' etc or 'Va Va Va Va mmmmmmm'  or 'Vaaaammmmmmm Vaaaammmmmmm Vaaaammmmmmm Vaaaammmmmmm' etc.  Play with it.  You can keep the same pitch or change it.  You can add in thinking about a sun yellow color near your 'bread basket' or around your whole body or wherever you like.  Simply see what works.  

The benefit: This is an easy way to bring the Water chakra back into balance.  Some of the things which can be positively influenced are:

• I am (deep / intuitive / still / sensitive / subtle • deeply feeling).
• I rejuvenate and heal myself
• I have a healing influence.
• I detoxify effortlessly 
• I am cleansed of shame and guilt.
• anything Pisces, Cancer, or Scorpio 

What benefits have you noticed?

For the next month or so, maybe play with this whenever it crosses your mind, and then at the end of the month maybe reflect a moment on whether or not things have changed during the course of the month?
