Polarity Therapy - The Earth Circuit

Polarity Therapy approaches the body from the vantage point of the chakra system, the association of the four elements of fire, earth, air, and water to the chakras, and the idea that energy flows between (+) and (-) poles.

In particular, the lower four chakras relate to our 'real world' manifestation and have a specific charge and spin, created by the flow of the Pingala and Ida.  Each of these chakras are affiliated with a different charge and a different element.

From these centers, lines of energy flow throughout the body, connecting seemingly disparate parts of the body in circuits comprised of three areas with different polarity.  If there is a blockage in a chakra or in the flow of energy from or to that chakra, we experience this as discomfort -- if not outright pain!   Sometimes where we feel the pain is not where the pain is originating.  Often it can be coming from another area, or if the chakra itself is having some trouble, maybe the whole circuit is lighting up.  Understanding where these circuits are and what they relate to provides answers and allows for some elegant solutions.

The Specifics:

With the Earth Circuit, the energy of the Root Chakra radiates outward and runs the length of the body along the side seams.  This channel of energy connects with an upper, middle, and lower region, as well as the index fingers and the second toes.  The upper portions of the body are considered positive, the middle areas neutral, and the lower portions negative.  For the Earth Circuit, the parts of the circuit are:

  • (+) pole of my neck   (Taurus)
  • (o) pole of my knee(s)  (Capricorn)
  • (-) pole of my colon   (Virgo)

This same pattern repeats in the index finger and the second toes.  The tips correlate to the (+) pole, the middle phalanges to the (0) pole, and the base to the (-) pole.  When energy has been off for a long while, the toes will be more involved, whereas more transient situations will be indicated in the fingers.

In practical terms, what does this mean?

The Technique:

For anything having to do with your neck, knees, or intestines/colon -- massage* your little fingers!  for good measure, massage your pinky toes.  Where you find the tender spots indicates particular areas of congestion.

Another easy way to access this circuit is through the knees or neck.  You can try squeezing, jiggling, 'digging in,' or simply holding them.

Putting your hands on any two of the circuit locations will facilitate flow.   Muscle checking or using a pendulum can assist with determining which two.   If that's not an option, simply moving through different combinations works as well.  For instance, any of these would be good:

  • cross your arms and contact the sides of your neck (if you do this while walking, you will be benefiting from a gentle (+) contact*)
  • cross your arms and connect with your intestines through your ribcage by intention
  • put one hand on the neck and the other on the abdomen or knee (experiment with different hands on top)
  • cross your arms and hold your knees, or maybe the opposite sides of one knee
  • put one hand on the abdomen and the other hand on a knee
  • any combination you can think of is game!

Some yoga postures are also very effective.  As with all yoga postures, use caution!!!  The correct level of stretch in a yoga posture is the stretch that feels good to start with and then disappears in sixty seconds -- because the muscle was not overtaxed and simply lengthened.  One of my favorites for opening the heart and lifting the shoulder blades off of the body is to lace the fingers behind you and lift the hands and arms away from the body.  If you're standing up, this starts out with moving the hands towards a spot on the floor by your heels and then progressively moving the spot further and further away and then up off the floor.  When you get fairly flexible, you can hinge at the hips, rest the rib cage on the thighs, and let gravity bring the hands over your head.

Try some of it!  See how it goes.  If you're finding anything in particular that doesn't seem to be shifting, there are more tailored approaches that can be useful.  You can reach me through email (lynn@satoriconnections.com) or by leaving a phone message. (512.869.7903)

Footnote about massage: In polarity therapy, there are three levels of contact.  Since you're at home doing this on your own, I recommend you go for comfort.  This may not be what someone doing polarity therapy would do, but they would have a better idea of what to do that is correct.  They will have studied this.  If you haven't studied it, be kind to yourself first.  No self-harm.

Books

I love books! These top three books help explain some about Resonance Repatterning® and PSYCH-KTM.  I have reviews of and comments about more books with links into Amazon in my original 'Bookstore' as well as a bigger but less verbose Amazon eStore.  Whenever I do online group Resonance Repatterning® series, I include books I've referenced in the resources sections for that series.
