Feathers 

When I learned German, in the U.S., for some reason, the teacher didn't speak it.  (She did mention she was French.)  Understandably, this made it a little hard to know how to say things!  And for years I was a little dismayed at how the word horse, das Pferd, sounded in German.

Then one night while visiting relatives in Switzerland, I heard how they pronounced Pferde - horses. And it was magical.  To the western ear, it sounded like 'Feathers.'  And isn't that really what it's about?
