Balancing the Earth Chakra through Sound -  "Lam"

Why the Earth chakra today?  

The chakras have an affiliation with the zodiac signs and as we leave April and head into May, we're moving through the western zodiacal sign of Taurus - the Bull.  Taurus is a Fixed Earth sign.  The Fixed aspect indicates that this is steady Earth -- some might consider it stubborn Earth!   This is a very solid energy, that is comforting, and useful for building foundations.  It is also an energy that enjoys the finer things in life.

In the world of chakras, we can expect the 'Earth Chakra' things to come up at this time of year.   Taurus in particular relates to the neck -- which relates to ones ability to see different perspectives.  (Let me share a secret: Taurus is usually one of the most open-minded and thorough signs in the zodiac!  *BEFORE* they have come to a conclusion.  After that, not so much.  This is why Sun-sign Taureans are often puzzled by what seems to them the unfair attribution that they are stubborn.  In their minds, they have searched the earth for all possible answers and found the best one.  After they've done that, no need for further discussion is all.)

Since the Earth Chakra also covers the other two Earth signs, some of the things attributed to Virgo and Capricorn can also be up. (some of these are listed in The Benefit section below)

A quick way to balance out these things is to chant the chakra seed sound for the Earth Chakra: "Lam" 

Any time you've got anything 'Earth Chakra' going on, the seed sound of "Lam" can be beneficial.  During the calendar year, from about April 21st to May 22nd, the Sun will be in Taurus and you can expect extra energy 'highlighting' whatever is going on in your Earth Chakra.

The technique:

  • vocalize the chakra seed sound   - Lam
  • and 'play' with: 
    • adding in colors to match the seed sounds - for Earth, the color is yellow.
    • being aware of the corresponding chakra location - in this case, the solar plexus
    • changing the pitch - C# for Taurus, F for Virgo, A for Capricorn  
    • changing the length of vocalization - ie long and drawn out, short

Example: 

To bring the chakra into greater balance, chant 'Lam Lam Lam Lam'  This could be pronounced 'Laaaaaaaaam   Laaaaaaaaam   Laaaaaaaaam   Laaaaaaaaam' etc or 'La La La La mmmmmmm'  or 'Laaaammmmmmm Laaaammmmmmm Laaaammmmmmm Laaaammmmmmm' etc.  Play with it.  You can keep the same pitch or change it.  You can add in thinking about a tomato red color near your tail bone or around your whole body or wherever you like.  Simply see what works.  

The benefit: This is an easy way to bring the Air chakra back into balance.  Some of the things which can be positively influenced are:

  • I stand by my values.
  • I am patient, calm, gentle, reliable, and responsible.
  • I am grounded in common sense.
  • I have wisdom
  • I am wise in the ways of the world.
  • I work hard
  • I am successful at whatever I put my mind to
  • I am persistent.
  • I use adversity for my own growth and the growth of the community.
  • anything Taurus, Virgo, or Taurus related that you know of from your own chart

What benefits have you noticed?

For the next month or so, maybe play with this whenever it crosses your mind, and then at the end of the month maybe reflect a moment on whether or not things have changed during the course of the month?
