The chakras have an affiliation with the zodiac signs and as we leave December and head into January, we're moving through the western zodiacal sign of Capricorn - the Mountain Goat.  Capricorn is a Cardinal Earth sign.  The Cardinal aspect indicates that this is a take-charge version of Earth -- some might consider it pushy, society climbing, or selfish.  I like to connect to the 'solid values' of Capricorn.  This is usually one of the 'pillars of society.'  Quiet and understated.

In the world of chakras, we can expect the 'Earth Chakra' things to come up.  Capricorn in particular relates to the knees and calves, agility, and authority.  

Since the Earth Chakra also covers the other two Earth signs, some of the things attributed to Taurus and Virgo can also be up. 

A quick way to balance out these things is to chant the chakra seed sound for the Earth Chakra: "Lam" 

Any time you've got anything 'Earth Chakra' going on, the seed sound of "Lam" can be beneficial.  During the calendar year, from about December 21st to January 22nd, the Sun will be in Capricorn and you can expect extra energy 'highlighting' whatever is going on in your Earth Chakra.

The technique:

  • vocalize the chakra seed sound   - Lam
  • and 'play' with: 
    • adding in colors to match the seed sounds - for Earth, the color is yellow.
    • being aware of the corresponding chakra location - in this case, the solar plexus
    • changing the pitch - A for Capricorn, C# for Taurus, F for Virgo 
    • changing the length of vocalization - ie long and drawn out, short

Example: 

To bring the chakra into greater balance, chant 'Lam Lam Lam Lam'  This could be pronounced 'Laaaaaaaaam   Laaaaaaaaam   Laaaaaaaaam   Laaaaaaaaam' etc or 'La La La La mmmmmmm'  or 'Laaaammmmmmm Laaaammmmmmm Laaaammmmmmm Laaaammmmmmm' etc.  Play with it.  You can keep the same pitch or change it.  You can add in thinking about a tomato red color near your tail bone or around your whole body or wherever you like.  Simply see what works.  

The benefit: This is an easy way to bring the Air chakra back into balance.  Some of the things which can be positively influenced are:

  • I have wisdom
  • I am wise in the ways of the world.
  • I work hard
  • I am successful at whatever I put my mind to
  • I am persistent.
  • I use adversity for my own growth and the growth of the community.
  • anything Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn related that you know of from your own chart

What benefits have you noticed?

For the next month or so, maybe play with this whenever it crosses your mind, and then at the end of the month maybe reflect a moment on whether or not things have changed during the course of the month?
