What is an Emotion?

It's a message!

Here's a thought from Hijacked by Your Brain: How to Free Yourself When Stress Takes Over

Emotion's are the thinking center's instant summary of bodily reactions to an alarming situation.

Only, let's be honest, sometimes the 'instant summary' is a little too 'instant!'

If you have been triggered by something in your environment, the next thing your mind does is to create a mental "headline" to explain why you are alarmed.   Very often you're in 'react' mode before you're even aware you're doing anything -- which might could put you in even more of an alarming situation!  And then you're dealing with that and the original content of the message gets lost in the action.

If you've noticed there are patterns of emotions in your life, you might find this next list from pps 128-129 of  Hijacked by Your Brain: How to Free Yourself When Stress Takes Over a little helpful in decoding the alarm message.  It's sort of a translation of what the message and action your alarm system wants you to receive and to take.

If you feel: Then the message is: And the action to take is:
Fear You may be in danger! Be on Guard.
Anxiety Something may go wrong. Check for potential problems.
Sadness Someone or something important to you is gone (or may go away.) Find new happiness.
Guilt You did something wrong. Figure it out and fix it.
Embarrassment You're not measuring up to your (or someone else's) expectations. Work Harder or Smarter.
Shame You're violating your basic beliefs or values. Be more true to yourself.
Anger Something or someone is harming your or others you care about. Protect yourself from them.
Disgust Something smells bad, literally or figuratively. Get rid of it.
Horror Something too terrible to be believed is happening. Get away!
Terror Something too terrible to survive is happening. RUN!
Boredom Nothing interesting is happening. Find something you care about to do.
Frustration Something that should be fixable isn't getting fixed. Find a new way.
Annoyance Something that should be minor is becoming a big problem. Find another new way.
Insecurity No one is looking out for you. Remember your optimal brain is always there to help you find the life that matters to you.

With this kind of information, you can consciously take action that is in alignment with the messages you are (perhaps unconsciously) getting. Rather than hoping the situation will resolve with 'time' or 'on its own,' you can do something that is in alignment with what is good for you.

If you try to ignore or stifle the uncomfortable sensations of these messages, a common approach, usually taken because it seems like the situation can't change, this would only raise the alarm higher or leave you in an alarming situation longer.   This way, you can zero in on what is troubling and take action to alleviate what is creating the message - and get to a better place faster!

Books

I love books! These top three books help explain some about Resonance Repatterning® and PSYCH-KTM.  I have reviews of and comments about more books with links into Amazon in my original 'Bookstore' as well as a bigger but less verbose Amazon eStore.  Whenever I do online group Resonance Repatterning® series, I include books I've referenced in the resources sections for that series.

Thank you for your purchases through the Satori Center Associates Store!
